Call Handling
Voicemail mode
Explain voicemail behaviour, fallback expectations, and what happens after a caller leaves a message.

What voicemail mode does
Voicemail mode plays a professional greeting when someone calls your Tideflow number and then records the caller's message. After the call, Tideflow automatically transcribes the recording so you can read a summary instead of listening to every voicemail.
What callers experience
- Greeting— The caller hears a voicemail greeting that includes your business name.
- Recording— After the tone, the caller leaves their message.
- End— The recording ends when the caller hangs up or after a maximum duration.
What happens after the call
Tideflow creates a call record that includes:
- Caller phone number (from caller ID when available)
- A transcription of the voicemail
- The original recording for playback
- Timestamps and call duration
Notifications through Slack and webhooks work the same way as they do for AI receptionist calls.
When voicemail mode is used
Voicemail mode is active when you explicitly select it in your workspace settings. It is also the fallback mode in some situations:
- If your workspace subscription is not active, Tideflow may fall back to voicemail to ensure callers are still handled
- If the AI receptionist cannot be reached due to a temporary issue, voicemail acts as the safety net
When to choose voicemail
Voicemail mode works best when:
- You want simple call coverage without conversational AI
- Your callers are accustomed to leaving voicemails
- You prefer to listen to or read messages rather than receive structured summaries
- You want a lower-touch option while evaluating Tideflow
Switching to AI receptionist
You can switch to AI receptionist mode at any time from your workspace settings. The change takes effect on the next incoming call. See AI receptionist for details.
